The new installment in the Ghostbusters franchise, Ghostbusters: Afterlife, doesn't drop until Friday, but the reviews are already rolling in. One phrase getting plenty of use is "fan service": critic lingo for giving fans the familiarity they crave, even if it isn't what's best for the film overall. It's a tricky business for filmmakers. You don't want to alienate your biggest supporters — but at the same time, if you love the old movies, just go watch the old movies, right?

The same can't be said for Hi-C Ecto Cooler, the Ghostbusters-themed citrus fruit drink that Hi-C first released in 1987. Fans can't go to some fruit drink equivalent of Netflix that allows them to fire up their favorite beverages of yore. When Hi-C takes Ecto Cooler away from us, it's gone for good… and they've taken it away many times.

But Hi-C has also re-introduced Ecto Cooler many times – and so when any new Ghostbusters project gets released, fans have a reasonable expectation that Ecto Cooler may also return… and for Afterlife, that's no exception.

So, yes, Hi-C Ecto Cooler is returning as a tie-in to this week's movie release, but don't expect this limited-run drink to land on grocery store shelves. Instead, Coca-Cola says this new "commemorative" release of Ecto Cooler — which will be in 12-ounce bottles for the first time — is available via "some surprises for those who follow and engage with our social channel @DrinkHiC."

Indeed, over the weekend, Hi-C tweeted, "Guess who escaped from the vault for an exclusive commemorative drop just in time for Ghostbusters: Afterlife, in theaters Nov. 19th? While this won't be available for purchase, show us the [green heart emoji] @DrinkHiC & @Ghostbusters & you may get slimed!" So basically, tag and you may receive.

Sure, in an age where brands are setting up online shops and selling their limited-edition items there, going through the hassle of a social media drop feels a bit tedious. But apparently, Hi-C saw this as an opportunity to build their Twitter cred: The account was only launched last month and, as of this writing, the brand has a mere 2,400 followers. Even if you don't win some green Hi-C, at the very least, following that account is as good a way as any to stay on top of any breaking Ecto Cooler news.
